My name is @Haiiileen and I am an interdisciplinary artist specializing in developing immersive environments that include custom-made large-scale light sculptures. I’ve always had a fascination with the concept of being able to envelop my audiences and send them into alternate realities through my work. Many of my past works share the common theme of taking spaces and creating abstract environments within them that have the ability to take the viewers to another place in time. Recently, I’ve conceptualized a new destination constructed by these multi-sensory experiences and my synesthesia-fueled imagination: Miami’s first experimental open studio up-cycling lab.
For the past year, I have been developing an experiential concept that allows for the artists in our community to be able to have a space to source materials and create. A place where I am able to invite the local community into my creative process, while also allowing for them to have their own, transporting the host space and visitors into multidimensional worlds of color, light, and fantasy also serving as a platform for alternative translations.
As a female mentor within my city of Miami, I feel that this project is something that is needed for the growth of our artistic population and can only push the limitations of what can be experienced and created. I would like to be able to provide the opportunity for individuals from the community to be a part of something greater, having the possibility to interact with not only each other but with the public platform I can provide for them to create with.
This concept stems from 10 years of running a community-based art intern program and has blossomed into something greater; A space for all who seek artistic refuge. This space will allow all artists in our community to have a chance to continue creating, no matter the setbacks in their lives that have stopped them from pursuing their passions before.
This experimental open studio will be made up of two sections: the public space and artist studio. The public area will be made up of several different micro-studios within this constantly evolving space. It will include a multisensory fabrication lab that will help further explore the theme of social interaction within the community. The community will be able to explore, feel, dream, think and express their ideas here freely; this is the place to create. The artist studio will not only be where I will be creating but will also serve as a learning space allowing those within the studio to both participate and watch me create.
The bulk of the donations would go towards the cost of the studio space. The remaining donations will be allocated towards compensation for assistants and technicians, administrative and marketing costs, materials and supplies needed to make this vision come to life. Fortunately, I receive an overwhelming amount of donated materials from different partners throughout the city, which helps in reducing the cost of this project. The more funds I am able to raise, the more self-sufficient this project can become.
Remember, any donation from you or from friends you share this with is incredibly helpful!! Thank you so much for your support, I can’t wait to make this idea become reality!
