Artist Haiiileen creates a 10’ x 10’ commission installation at the W Hotel South Beach. The inspiration for this mixed media installation was taken from nostalgic Miami life, expressed through the manipulation of tropical flora, vivid colors, and linear lighting.
60 individual fashion influenced collages on 29 in. x 45 in. acrylic panels taking over the entirety of a 1,200 sq/ft wall inside of MANA Wynwood accenting an abstract chandelier made from over 70 custom acrylic elements.
Inspired by Club Kids, a fashion subculture characterized in the underground NYC music scene in the late 80’s and inspired by how music influences the way we dress and ultimately the way we express ourselves. Haiiileen creates 60 abstract representations as a reflection of her life work in the realm of music, art, and fashion. Each encapsulates a memory from different stages of her life, the installation and individual pieces representing a collage of these moments. The full-scale view of the installation is a mirror, each panel reflecting the other and further embodying this reflective theme. When you first approach the piece you’ll encounter a sweeping arrangement of multi-colored lights ranging across a dynamic gradient of colors. As you walk closer to the installation your eye is drawn to the male guardians at the base of the installation. These represent foundations of strength and beauty. Your gaze will then find itself face to face with a portal door, guarded by two mannequins representing a king and queen, acting as guardians of light and protection as you transport yourself into the festival and reach another dimension at the Main Frame Stage.
In “HAILEEN” (2015) Artist Haiiileen creates a transformative narrative in the form of multiple rooms, inspired by her travels, lust and sexuality she takes on a more refined approach to performance art spaces creating a deeper meaning to each room. The first room is a bonsai garden with trees, a flowing river, and colors reminiscent of a japanese sunrise. The second room is a transformation chamber where hair stylists and makeup artists await to makeover guests. The third room is a game show room which has a performance pieces inspired by anime and japanese video games. Last but not least, the fourth room is a seduction room riddled with a dominatrix theme. Haiiileen left her own phone number in advertisements pasted all over the walls of the room for those “seeking therapy.” Throughout the entire event people were calling, leaving her voicemails and text messages with their concerns and heartfelt messages.
In “Bitches Be Trippin” (2014) Artist Haiiileen uses a multi-layered, multi-sensory environment, and her background in fashion, installations, and performance art pieces to create a four-room interactive experience in which participants enter into an acid beach themed room that takes them on a transformational trip where stylists are ready to transform guests at makeup and nail stations. After their makeover guests are ushered into a neon glow in the dark lounge which takes them to the end of their journey through the acid beach. Guests can then can capture their acid trip to keep a trippy memory at the interactive photo booth in the fourth and last room.
“Aileen’s Aliens” (2013) Artist Haiiileen’s first-ever inaugural installation. A conceptual piece inspired by her background in producing back of house fashion shows incorporated into a beautiful organic performance. She merges her ideas of performance, fashion, and art to create an interactive photo booth experience which launched her career in the art world.
III Points Festival at Mana Wynwood October 6-9, 2016
Inspired by the “vaporwave shopping center” called Sunsets @ Noon where all the artistic aspirations of Haiiileen converge: music, fashion, visual terrain and interactive installations.
Visitors travel through the installation on a journey to an obsolete past: an initiative that turns vapowave into a living fantasy.
On the installation and its concept, Quintana has said this to Billboard :
“Malls are becoming obsolete, and that is a thing of the past, of our generation’s pop culture. Vaporwave has so much to do with mall ambience noises … and we now see fashion as an internet commodity. I’m paying my respect and homage to the dead malls. “
Quintana has partnered with designers ISHINE365, Style Mafia and Algae to create the different departments and spaces of the shopping center. Quintana will also present her Interdimensional Baths video in Miami , with an aesthetic similar to Greco-Roman sculptures that also connect with the vaporwave.
