CLUB SPACE: LEGS is a large-scale immersive installation by Haiiileen that transforms nightlife architecture into a participatory environment for expression, reflection, and political dialogue. Installed within the iconic Miami venue Club Space, the work invited visitors to physically enter a synesthetic environment saturated with light, color, mirrored surfaces, and suspended mannequin legs—disrupting the boundary between club culture and contemporary installation art.

“I wanted people to stop moving for a moment—even in a club—and say something they were holding inside.”

Created in the wake of the Women’s March and amid a heightened political climate in the United States, CLUB SPACE: LEGS functions as both sensory overload and collective release. The installation draws from feminist protest energy and transforms it into an interactive, neon-lit landscape where bodies, language, and emotion coexist.

Audience members were encouraged to write directly onto the installation walls using dry erase markers—turning the space into a living archive of public sentiment. As the exhibition unfolded, the walls accumulated layered messages, many of which reflected urgent political commentary, social unrest, and calls for autonomy, visibility, and change.

The repetition of disembodied legs references both movement and restriction—dance and protest, freedom and objectification—mirroring the contradictions of the moment.

  • Suspended mannequin legs in saturated neon hues
  • Disco balls and mirrored surfaces for light refraction
  • Color-reactive lighting environments
  • Interactive wall surfaces designed for dry erase marker text
  • Dense spatial layering to encourage immersion and bodily awareness

“This piece lives in the tension between celebration and resistance. People came to dance, but they stayed to speak.”

CLUB SPACE: LEGS represents an early and formative example of Haiiileen’s immersive, socially responsive practice—bridging nightlife, installation art, and participatory political expression. The work prefigures her later public and institutional projects by establishing core methodologies: audience activation, synesthetic environments, and the transformation of nontraditional venues into platforms for communal voice.

This installation also documents a specific cultural moment, preserving public emotional response during a period of national upheaval.

“When people are allowed to write, they reveal what history feels like in real time.”
