In 2017, artist and creative director Haiiileen collaborated with MAC Cosmetics to produce an immersive, multi-sensory installation merging beauty, performance, and conceptual art. This project celebrated the power of color, transformation, and identity — recurring themes in Haiiileen’s evolving artistic universe.
Through this collaboration, Haiiileen redefined the concept of cosmetic art as an experience — crafting environments and visuals that blurred the line between makeup, emotion, and spatial design.

Description
The MAC Cosmetics (2017) collaboration showcased Haiiileen’s signature ability to translate makeup and fashion into living art. Using reflective materials, prismatic color palettes, and layered textures, she created an experiential space that reflected both the brand’s ethos and her own synesthetic relationship to color.
The installation was complemented by performance, photography, and audience interaction — transforming a traditional brand activation into a conceptual art experience. The work highlighted color as vibration, makeup as sculpture, and the face as a living canvas for transformation.
“Makeup for me has never been about surface — it’s energy. This collaboration allowed me to paint emotion itself.” — Haiiileen
Conceptual Framework
- Beauty as Frequency: Makeup as an extension of energy and vibration.
- Synesthetic Color Theory: Translating emotional resonance through pigment and reflection.
- Transformation and Identity: Exploring how adornment shapes perception.
- Brand as Medium: Using a commercial platform as a canvas for conceptual storytelling.
Installation Components
- Prismatic mirrored displays showcasing the MAC color spectrum as sculptural compositions.
- Immersive light chamber blending soft diffused color transitions with reflective texture.
- Performance-based activation featuring live makeup application as ritual art.
- Sound design inspired by synesthetic reactions to pigment hues.
- Photographic portraits capturing the transformation of participants and models.
Artist Reflection
“Working with MAC was like returning to my roots — where I learned how color, texture, and reflection could build emotion. It was a moment of full-circle transformation, merging fashion, beauty, and conceptual art into one luminous experience.”
This collaboration symbolized the synthesis of Haiiileen’s MakeupByAileen era with her identity as Haiiileen, the immersive artist. It became a catalyst for her subsequent shift into large-scale installations and experiential environments.
