Description
HAIII is a conceptual performance art photography series developed by Haiiileen in collaboration with photographer Loamis Rodriguez. The series explores identity as a mutable, performative state—fragmented, exaggerated, and reconstructed through color, gesture, and visual repetition.
The images function simultaneously as documentation of performance and as standalone conceptual artworks, later incorporated into an eccentric installation at III Points Festival in 2015.
“HAIII isn’t one character—it’s every version of myself colliding at once.”
Conceptual Framework
At the core of HAIII is the multiplicity of self. Drawing from synesthesia, pop iconography, and emotional extremity, Haiiileen performs exaggerated facial expressions and bodily gestures while layered textures and color treatments disrupt legibility and identity.
Each image operates like a psychological mask—suggesting humor, discomfort, confidence, vulnerability, and distortion in rapid succession. The repetition of the artist’s face across varying emotional registers reflects the instability of identity in contemporary culture, particularly within digital and performative spaces.
The series challenges the viewer to question which version is “authentic,” proposing instead that authenticity exists precisely in multiplicity.
Installation Context
The HAIII series was used to construct an immersive, eccentric installation environment at III Points Festival, where the images functioned as both visual stimuli and identity artifacts—blurring boundaries between performance, portraiture, and spatial experience.
Artist Reflection
“Performance is where I test who I am allowed to be. Photography freezes those moments before they disappear.”
Archival Significance
HAIII represents a formative moment in Haiiileen’s interdisciplinary practice, bridging performance art, photographic experimentation, and installation. The series prefigures her later immersive environments, public art works, and synesthetic identity studies by establishing recurring themes: repetition, persona fragmentation, color as emotional language, and the body as both medium and message.
This work also marks an early collaboration-driven approach that continues to define her practice.

“Identity isn’t fixed—it performs itself differently every time it’s seen.”
