In 206 Discotec (2017), artist Haiiileen transforms the aesthetics of nightlife into a living artwork — merging sound, light, and movement to create a glowing portal of energy and reflection.
Part performance, part installation, 206 Discotec reimagines the dance floor as an art experience — a sensory landscape where geometry, rhythm, and human presence collide. This project marks the early phase of Haiiileen’s exploration of synesthetic environments that dissolve the boundaries between party, ritual, and performance.

Description
206 Discotec is a site-specific light installation and performance inspired by disco culture and the psychology of collective energy. Through mirrored surfaces, neon hues, and rhythmic soundscapes, Haiiileen designed a dynamic environment where light and sound moved in harmony with human presence.
The title references both a physical space (“206”) and a state of mind (“Discotec”) — a metaphor for the emotional frequencies shared between people in moments of collective vibration. The work invited participants to become part of the composition, reflecting light and movement back into the installation.
“The idea was to turn nightlife into art — to make a living light sculpture that pulsed with the same emotion as music.” — Haiiileen
Conceptual Framework
- Synesthetic Architecture: Translating rhythm into light and light into emotion.
- Collective Energy: The nightclub as a space of transformation and human resonance.
- Reflection as Participation: Using mirrors and chrome surfaces to make viewers part of the art.
- Movement and Time: Creating visual choreography through shifting light and shadow.
Installation Components
- Mirrored wall structures amplifying color and spatial distortion.
- Programmable LED systems synchronized with sound frequency patterns.
- Reflective flooring and ceiling creating infinite feedback loops of light.
- Performance sequences featuring stylized motion and body activation in light.
- Sound environment developed from bass-heavy rhythmic loops designed for physical immersion.
Artist Reflection
“This piece was about emotion in motion — how spaces can feel alive when sound, light, and bodies synchronize. I wanted to give shape to vibration.”
This project became an essential predecessor to Aqua (2017) and Neo Odyssey (2018), setting the foundation for Haiiileen’s continued fascination with rhythm, reflection, and chromatic architecture.

“I think of disco not as nostalgia, but as frequency — a color spectrum that reminds us we’re all light in motion.”
