In Neo Odyssey (2018), artist Haiiileen brought her distinct fusion of light, motion, and human energy to the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. This immersive performance installation explored the evolution of consciousness through light and sound, transforming the museum’s architecture into a futuristic portal that dissolved the boundaries between science and art.
Through reflective materials, reactive lighting, and live performance, Neo Odyssey visualized a journey through perception — an artistic expedition into the unknown dimensions of color, sound, and emotion.

Description
Neo Odyssey was conceived as an exploration of futurism through sensory design, where visitors became participants in an evolving light narrative. The installation featured mirrored geometries, LED patterns, and live movement by the artist, creating a multidimensional environment that evoked interstellar travel, human introspection, and collective awakening.
The work served as both a performance and a living sculpture — a constantly shifting reflection of energy and audience presence. Using her synesthetic approach, Haiiileen designed the experience to emulate a “cosmic rebirth,” guided by pulsing light and transcendent sound frequencies.
“This was my study of how light could act as consciousness — how we could move through color as a universal language.” — Haiiileen
Conceptual Framework
- Light as Consciousness: Exploring the metaphysical potential of illumination as a living, thinking medium.
- Synesthetic Design: Translating sound into color gradients and spatial geometry.
- Science x Art Collaboration: Integrating the scientific environment of the Frost Museum with performance art.
- Neo-Futurism: Reimagining evolution and identity through post-human aesthetics.

Installation Components
- Mirrored sculptural surfaces reflecting both performer and audience.
- LED and laser light systems programmed to follow sound frequencies.
- Custom soundscape composed of low-frequency tones and ambient signals.
- Choreographed live performance integrating costume, light, and motion.
- Atmospheric fog and diffusion layers to create depth and dimensionality.
Artist Reflection
“I wanted Neo Odyssey to feel like stepping into a living frequency — an ecosystem where every reflection and pulse of light carried emotional data. It was a way to merge the cerebral with the sensual.”
This work represented a turning point in Haiiileen’s career — the moment where her performative and architectural instincts aligned into one cohesive, immersive methodology.
Archival Significance
- First major presentation of Haiiileen’s futurist synesthetic installation work in a science museum.
- Expanded her cross-disciplinary reach between art, science, and technology.
- Introduced the ‘Neo’ conceptual framework, which influenced later works such as Neo Aciiid (2020) and Prismatic Queen (2025).
- Marked the early evolution of her light performance language — integrating human motion, physics, and geometry.

“It wasn’t about traveling through space — it was about traveling through light. Neo Odyssey was the portal where art, science, and vibration finally met.”
