In 2018, Haiiileen unveiled AQUA, a performance and light installation exploring reflection, rhythm, and the energy of water as a metaphor for emotional transformation. Presented during Art Week Miami, the piece invited audiences into a synesthetic landscape of liquid motion and chromatic resonance.
Part of Haiiileen’s evolving exploration of vibrational art, AQUA merged performance, architecture, and environmental design into a meditative experience — where light rippled like sound and the body became water.Keyword focus: Aqua performance installation by Haiiileen

Title: AQUA (2018) — Performance Installation by Haiiileen
- Artist: Haiiileen
- Presented at: III Points x Art Week Miami
- Medium: Performance Art | Immersive Installation | Sound & Light Environment
- Location: Miami, FL
- Year: 2018
Description
“AQUA” was a site-specific performance where movement, sound, and reflective materials fused into a sculptural choreography of fluid energy. The installation featured translucent acrylic panels, mirrored surfaces, and projection-mapped visuals that rippled in real-time with the performer’s gestures.
Set against an ambient score of underwater frequencies, Haiiileen embodied the element of water itself — shifting between calm reflection and kinetic waves of motion. The performance’s narrative unfolded like an energetic tide: birth, transformation, and return.
“AQUA was about surrender — to motion, to feeling, to frequency. The water inside us is also the water around us.” — Haiiileen
Conceptual Framework
- Water as Consciousness: Reflecting emotional states through physical fluidity.
- Synesthetic Choreography: Translating sound frequencies into visual motion.
- Refraction and Reflection: Using light and material as metaphors for awareness.
- Performance as Meditation: Transforming movement into a shared energetic field.
Installation Components
- 30+ custom acrylic panels resembling liquid surfaces.
- LED lighting and projection mapping that mirrored underwater motion.
- Reflective flooring and ambient sound design inspired by marine acoustics.
- Costume design created by Haiiileen to mimic iridescent waves and foam.
- Performance sequence built on the rhythm of tides and heartbeat pulses.
Artist Reflection
“This was one of my most intimate performances — it was about remembering that we’re made of water, color, and vibration. It taught me to let go and flow.”
AQUA represented a turning point for Haiiileen, where her installations evolved beyond spectacle into emotional ecosystems — environments designed for resonance, stillness, and awakening.
Archival Significance
- Expands upon the Interdimensional Baths (2016) foundation of immersive water-based performance.
- Conceptually connects to LightScapes (2018–2019) and AQUA (Light Sculpture Series) at Young At Art Museum.
- Established a signature language of reflection, transparency, and frequency.
- Marks a critical transition between performance art and environmental installation.
- A key precursor to Aura Reading (2024) and Solar Portals (2026 submission).

“Water taught me the language of light. AQUA was a mirror — not just for the body, but for the soul.”
