From November 2, 2018 through April 28, 2019, Young At Art Museum presented LightScapes, the first solo museum exhibition by Cuban-American interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. Installed in the Knight Gallery, the 2,500 sq. ft. exhibition featured three monumental light sculptures — Amaziiing, Aqua, and HaiiiMobile — alongside an interactive fabrication lab. By combining synesthetic thinking, color theory, and quantum physics, Haiiileen created immersive prismatic environments that transformed how visitors experienced light and space.

Exhibition Overview
LightScapes marked the first solo museum exhibition of Cuban-American interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. Installed at the Knight Gallery of Young At Art Museum, the exhibition featured three monumental acrylic light sculptures and a hands-on fabrication lab.
Drawing from her synesthetic thinking, Haiiileen used light as her primary medium, manipulating reflection, color, and scale to create what she calls a “neo-abstract alternate reality.” The works invited visitors into interactive, prismatic environments that reimagined how we perceive time, space, and energy.
Featured Works
- Amaziiing
A walkable maze constructed from marbleized acrylic sheets, mirrored elements, and LED lighting. Designed for exploration, Amaziiing was the first of its kind — a large-scale sculptural labyrinth of prismatic light. - Aqua
Comprised of 30+ custom acrylic sculptures with integrated LED lighting. Visitors were encouraged to interact with the arrangement, producing shifting reflections that echoed water currents and aquatic movement. - HaiiiMobile
A kinetic sculpture of over 200 floating acrylic elements suspended in rotation. The installation included a transportive viewing zone of reflective beanbags, allowing audiences to gaze upward and lose themselves in an illusion of infinite space and time. - MicroLab
A fabrication lab dedicated to exploring electricity, positive/negative wavelengths, light frequencies, and the science of light theory. Designed as an immersive educational platform for children and families, the lab reinforced Haiiileen’s interest in the intersection of art, science, and play.
Conceptual Framework
Haiiileen’s LightScapes was conceived as both an art exhibition and a community laboratory. The show focused on color theory, illusions, reflections, and quantum physics, using prismatic light as a tool for multisensory learning. By merging installation art with education, LightScapes introduced audiences — especially youth — to new ways of understanding perception and reality.
Archival Significance
LightScapes is a landmark in Haiiileen’s archive as her first solo museum exhibition. It represents a critical moment when her large-scale sculptural practice transitioned into institutional recognition. The exhibition also reinforced her identity as a cultural engineer, blending aesthetics, science, and interactivity to create communal experiences.
The works Amaziiing, Aqua, and HaiiiMobile became foundational projects in her body of immersive installations, later informing projects like Sunset at Noon and her continuing exploration of chromatic environments.
