In 2022, I partnered with STUDS to create a limited-edition, hand-painted earring experience that merged wearable art, synesthetic color translation, and one-minute aura readings. This activation transformed the STUDS Wynwood shop into a micro-installation of neon acrylics, holographic surfaces, and personalized ritual moments—each pearl becoming a small universe of color and intention.

DESCRIPTION
STUDS × Haiiileen: Baroque Pearl Aura Huggies is a hybrid retail-art intervention fusing wearable sculpture, synesthetic color translation, and micro-performance ritual. For this activation, participants purchased a pair of baroque pearl huggies, which then became the material site for an individualized, in-person aura reading by the artist.
Haiiileen hand-painted each pearl using a specialized iridescent pigment technique, translating the participant’s perceived vibrational field into micro-gestural marks. The result is both a customized talismanic object and a portable extension of the artist’s synesthetic practice. The activation incorporated neon acrylic trays, holographic stickers, and marbled backdrops, creating a chromatic environment resembling an intimate laboratory of color energetics.
This project sits at the intersection of contemporary jewelry, relational aesthetics, and new-age conceptualism, transforming a retail space into a site of ritual, identity mapping, and sensory storytelling. Through this lens, the work becomes both object and event — a synthesis of art, commerce, and personal mythology.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The activation functions within the lineage of participatory art, exploring how color can mediate interpersonal exchange and how adornment operates as a cultural code. By using baroque pearls — organic forms shaped by irregular growth — Haiiileen foregrounds the beauty of non-uniformity and positions the body as an evolving canvas of meaning.
The act of painting directly onto jewelry collapses distinctions between:
- object and aura,
- consumer good and spiritual artifact,
- commercial activation and experiential performance,
- mass-culture branding and individual transformation.
Haiiileen employs synesthetic methodologies to interpret the energetic textures of each participant, inscribing them into the pearl’s surface. Each stroke becomes a form of energetic notation, creating a wearable archive of a momentary encounter.
ARTIST REFLECTION
Haiiileen:
“I wanted each pearl to hold a moment — a micro-universe of color, intention, and identity. When I paint someone’s aura, I’m translating what cannot be seen into something that can be worn, carried, remembered. It becomes a keepsake of frequency.”

ARCHIVAL SIGNIFICANCE
This collaboration marks an important intersection in Haiiileen’s oeuvre:
- early formation of her Aura Reading methodology,
- integration of retail environments as installation ecosystems,
- expansion of wearable art as energetic artifact,
- development of branded experiential activations bridging art and fashion.
It is a precursor to later works involving aura mapping, participatory color systems, and multisensory ritual design. The STUDS activation is thus cataloged as a foundational project in the evolution of Haiiileen’s Synesthetic-Aura practice.
