In 2018, multidisciplinary artist Haiiileen presented — an expansive performance and light installation for Art Week Miami. This multisensory work merged movement, sound, and geometry into a hypnotic, prismatic experience.
Performed as part of her ongoing exploration of synesthesia and transformation, Sunset at Noon brought together the intensity of live performance with the serenity of immersive light architecture — creating a space where the body became both the medium and the message.

Description
Sunset at Noon was a site-specific performance piece that blurred the lines between installation, dance, and ritual. Centered around the concept of a sunset occurring at its opposite hour, the work reflected Haiiileen’s fascination with paradox, perception, and the physics of color.
Performing within a glowing, mirrored environment, the artist used layered fabrics, projection, and choreography to explore the liminal space between night and day, self and reflection. Viewers experienced a hypnotic metamorphosis — an embodied “sunset” illuminated by artificial light at the hour of noon.
“I wanted to reverse the logic of time — to experience dusk as awakening, to show how light can dissolve and reappear through us.” — Haiiileen
Conceptual Framework
- Temporal Inversion: Exploring the impossibility of a sunset at noon — a metaphor for emotional duality.
- Synesthetic Movement: Choreography driven by color and sound frequencies.
- Transformation as Ritual: Using light, costume, and gesture as tools of metamorphosis.
- Public Immersion: Positioning the audience as witnesses and participants in a shifting chromatic world.
Installation Components
- Reflective mirrored flooring and light-reactive fabrics.
- Custom LED structures programmed for gradient color flow.
- Projection-mapped geometry pulsing with sound frequency.
- Layered fashion design crafted by the artist.
- Atmospheric soundtrack composed to match color modulation.
Artist Reflection
“This piece came from a very emotional place — a meditation on duality, exhaustion, and rebirth. I built a world where light could be exhausted and still radiate.”
Sunset at Noon symbolized Haiiileen’s transition from reactive performance to systemic world-building, foreshadowing the fully immersive ecosystems of her later installations.
Archival Significance
- Premiered during Art Week Miami 2018 as part of Haiiileen’s III Points legacy.
- Acts as the bridge between Interdimensional Baths (2016) and HAIII on Society (2020).
- Marks the beginning of her mature exploration into light choreography and synesthetic performance.
- Introduced recurring themes of chromatic inversion, ritualized transformation, and emotional energy physics.
- Important within the artist’s archive as a catalyst for immersive performance language.

“The performance was about surrendering to contradiction — letting yourself exist in both shadow and illumination, in beauty and dissonance.”
