Aqua Haiii – Artechouse Miam (2020)

Aqua Haiii (2020) by Haiiileen was a site-specific installation commissioned by Artechouse Miami, exploring the emotional, sensory, and physical properties of water as light.

The work reflects Haiiileen’s synesthetic relationship with sound and color — translating aquatic frequencies into a “blue iridescent reality” that envelops viewers in a meditative spectrum of motion, reflection, and emotional depth.

Title: Aqua Haiii (2020) – Immersive Installation for Artechouse Miami

  • Artist: Haiiileen
  • Medium: Installation | Light | Projection | Mixed Media
  • Commissioned by: Artechouse Miami
  • Year: 2020

Through sculptural light forms, projection mapping, and reflective materials, Aqua Haiii transforms perception into fluidity. The installation simulates the visual sensation of submergence — where the viewer becomes suspended between reflection and refraction, sound and silence.

Mirrored surfaces and translucent films refract light into endless gradients of blue, cyan, and indigo, while rhythmic soundscapes pulse through the space like underwater heartbeats. The effect is hypnotic, emotional, and sensory — an atmosphere that blurs the boundaries between digital illusion and physical space.

Aqua Haiii was my attempt to translate stillness into frequency — to turn water into emotion, and emotion into light.” — Haiiileen

  • Synesthetic Translation: Sound → Light → Emotion.
  • Aqueous Reality: Light and reflection as metaphors for perception.
  • Blue Frequency Study: Examining emotional and psychological effects of color blue.
  • Immersion & Empathy: Transforming environmental awareness into emotional resonance.

The installation embodies Haiiileen’s philosophy that color and texture are emotional codes — capable of guiding human introspection and presence.

  • Reflective sculptural forms resembling liquid motion.
  • Projection mapping system visualizing water currents and abstract fluid shapes.
  • Audio-reactive lighting synchronized to ambient underwater frequencies.
  • Textural architecture of iridescent plastic, mylar, and recycled film.
  • Central projection pool with rotating chromatic vortex visuals.
  • Ambient soundscape composed of oceanic tones and resonant low frequencies.
  • Artist Reflection

“I think of water as memory — it holds reflection, emotion, and sound. Aqua Haiii was about merging those senses until they became inseparable.”

During the 2020 debut, Aqua Haiii represented an emotional response to collective uncertainty — a sanctuary for stillness and reflection amidst turbulence. It reinforced Haiiileen’s signature as an artist who transforms scientific light studies into emotional landscapes.

  • Commissioned for Artechouse Miami’s Local Artist Collaboration Series.
  • Integral to Haiiileen’s exploration of “liquid frequency environments.”
  • Early prototype for her “Aural Spectrum” installations (2021–2023).
  • Coincided with Pantone’s Color of the Year 2020 – Classic Blue, interpreted through Haiiileen’s synesthetic language.
  • Marks a major collaboration between Miami-based artists and national immersive media institutions.

“Blue has always been my mirror — infinite, emotional, reflective. In Aqua Haiii, I wanted people to see themselves the way light sees water.”
