There are moments when an artwork moves beyond objecthood and becomes an experience—Monochrome Devotion: Blue Frequency Study (2025) exists in that space.

Constructed through meticulous hand-painted paper collage, the work radiates outward from a central geometric axis, forming a field of layered blue frequencies. Each fragment is individually painted, cut, and placed, creating a dynamic composition that shifts between order and expansion.

The scale of the piece—amplified by its chromed frame and wide white mat—allows it to function as both an intimate and architectural presence. From a distance, it reads as a unified burst of energy; up close, it reveals a complex system of gestures, textures, and intentional disruptions.

Artist Quote:
“Blue, in this work, is not just color—it is frequency, devotion, and a space for reflection.”

Core Themes:
Frequency, devotion, perception, expansion, synesthetic translation

Cultural Context:
Contemporary abstraction intersecting with spiritual geometry and sensory-based art practices

Movement / Category:
Synesthetic abstraction / sacred geometry / mixed media collage

This work investigates how visual structure can embody non-visible phenomena—energy, memory, and emotional resonance. The radial composition acts as a visual signal, suggesting both inward focus and outward transmission.

Within Haiiileen’s broader practice, this piece reflects an ongoing inquiry into how color and form operate as languages of perception—bridging the physical and the intangible.

Presenting this work at Locust Projects’ Spring Fling 2026 was an incredibly meaningful experience.

For nearly three decades, Locust Projects has supported artists by providing space for experimentation, risk-taking, and growth. Being included in this context—surrounded by a community of artists, collectors, and supporters—reinforced the importance of platforms that actively invest in creative ecosystems.

Seeing Monochrome Devotion installed in the gallery space, and witnessing viewers engage with it in real time, was a powerful reminder:

Art is not static.
It lives through interaction.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to Lorie Mertes and the entire Locust Projects team for their care, generosity, and commitment to artists.

Supporting organizations like Locust means supporting:

  • creative experimentation
  • emerging voices
  • and the future of contemporary art

As part of this contribution, I was also honored to donate an additional work to further support the organization’s mission and fundraising efforts.

The Spring Fling Silent Auction offers a unique opportunity for collectors—both new and established—to engage directly with artists and acquire original works.

Moments like these create entry points into collecting that feel:

  • accessible
  • personal
  • and meaningful

Take a Piece of Paradise Home.
Bid. Win. Live with the Work.

This piece represents a moment of focus and devotion in my practice.

It required patience, precision, and trust in process—allowing each layer to build into something larger than itself. Seeing it resonate within a public space reaffirmed my belief in creating work that holds both structure and emotion.

Creative intelligence over everything.

Monochrome Devotion: Blue Frequency Study marks a key point in Haiiileen’s evolving exploration of:

  • large-scale collage systems
  • sacred geometric structuring
  • and frequency-based visual language

The work contributes to contemporary discourse around:

  • synesthetic art practices
  • material-driven abstraction
  • and the intersection of perception and spatial experience
