Aileen Quintana Featured in The Miami Herald: “Student on Her Way to a Tailor-Made Career” (2003)

-Before Haiiileen became known for her synesthetic art, immersive environments, and experimental light installations, her first public recognition came in 2003, when The Miami Herald profiled her as a budding fashion designer. Then a senior at G. Holmes Braddock High School, she founded her school’s first-ever Fashion Club and produced a full-scale fashion show titled Dreams 2003.

At just 17 years old, Aileen Quintana envisioned and executed an ambitious student-led fashion event that showcased original designs by local youth. The Dreams 2003 fashion show featured over 16 custom looks and brought together students, sponsors, and community members to celebrate emerging talent in Miami’s creative scene.

Quintana not only designed several dresses for the event but also coordinated the overall production — from casting models and collaborating with sponsors like Genie Catering and Pepsi, to curating themes that connected fashion with individuality and cultural identity.

As her mentor Sira Rodríguez noted in the article:

“She has a lot of potential and is determined to get ahead. If we continue to encourage her, she will become a great designer.”

The feature positioned Quintana as a young visionary already experimenting with the intersections of art, fashion, and storytelling — themes that would later evolve into the foundation of her Haiiileen identity.

  • Youth Empowerment through Design: Founding Braddock High’s first Fashion Club, creating opportunities for student collaboration.
  • Community Engagement: Partnering with local sponsors to produce an independent creative showcase.
  • Early Creative Direction: Blending visual art and performance — a precursor to her later multimedia installations.
  • Female Leadership in the Arts: Establishing herself as a young Latina artist and leader in South Florida’s creative ecosystem.

“I was just hopeful that the show would be a success and help me show all of South Florida what I can do.”
