At Ultra Music Festival 2017, artist Haiiileen debuted ULTRA — a monumental immersive festival installation fusing light, reflection, and live performance.
Transforming sound frequencies into living color, Haiiileen created a reactive environment that pulsed with the energy of the crowd.
The installation bridged art and festival culture, introducing the language of synesthetic design and emotional light architecture to a global audience.

Description
ULTRA (2017) was a multi-sensory installation and live performance concept by Haiiileen, blending her passion for light, motion, and sound into a hypnotic festival-scale environment.
Created for Ultra Music Festival, the piece merged reflective sculpture, projection mapping, and performance art — transforming the energy of the crowd into a living, pulsing organism of color and rhythm.
Participants entered an illuminated environment where every surface reflected chromatic light, creating a 360° sensory loop of sound, reflection, and movement.
Haiiileen’s performance within the piece — using flowing fabrics, mirrored elements, and reactive color frequencies — emphasized the harmony between body and light.

“ULTRA was an exercise in high-vibration design — a study in how energy can be translated into movement, music, and color all at once.”
Conceptual Framework

- Energy as Material: Explores how sound frequencies and human presence shape light and perception.
- Synesthetic Environments: The work extends Haiiileen’s ongoing exploration of color as vibration and emotion.
- Festival Context as Canvas: Uses the energy of a large-scale public gathering as an artistic material, creating art through collective frequency.
- Fusion of Disciplines: Combines the artist’s background in performance, design, and stage direction into a live, reactive space.
- Portal of Light: Represents a conceptual bridge between AQUA (2017) and later immersive installations like LightScapes (2018–2019).
Archival Significance
- First major festival-based immersive environment by Haiiileen.
- Solidified her use of light-frequency systems and mirrored architecture in large-scale public installations.
- Served as a prototype for later kinetic and reflective environments (such as HaiiiMobile and ORA).
- Expanded her practice from museum and gallery settings into mass participatory art experiences.

“Ultra was where I learned that collective frequency is art — the crowd, the sound, the light… all of it was one living, breathing organism.”
