Description
AURA MIIIRORRS is a chromatic mirror series by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. Developed over nearly a year during the 2020–2021 pandemic isolation period, the works fuse refraction, light manipulation, and color theory into a newly engineered surface treatment that embeds color directly into the mirror itself.
Through a custom process involving chemical reactions, pigment transfers, and layered applications, each mirror reveals a marbleized spectrum of color. When viewers approach the work, their reflection merges with shifting gradients—creating the sensation of seeing one’s own “aura” projected back through light and color.
“Looking into these mirrors is like looking into your internal light. The colors become a reflection of what you carry inside.”
Conceptual Framework
Rooted in synesthetic perception, Haiiileen’s practice involves translating internal sensory experiences into external, physical form. In AURA MIIIRORRS, the mirror becomes a portal rather than a passive surface—an opportunity to consider identity, energy, and self-perception through the lens of color.
The hexagonal format is deliberate: a symbol of universal coherence, symmetry, and natural order. Seen in crystals, honeycombs, and sacred geometries, the hexagon serves as the structural and conceptual backbone of the series. Its repeating form creates an interconnected visual field that shifts with light, movement, and viewer perspective.
Installed as a constellation across the museum wall, the works activate the space with chromatic vibration, responding to both the gallery’s natural light and the physical presence of viewers.

Artist Reflection
“During the pandemic, color became survival for me. I spent ten months developing a formula that let me push color inside the mirror, almost like capturing a feeling in suspended light. Each piece is a reflection of emotional presence.”
Archival Significance
This series represents a major technical and conceptual milestone in Haiiileen’s career. AURA MIIIRORRS marks the moment she expanded from light-based installations into hybrid mirror-sculpture works that merge emotional introspection with optical engineering.
The nine works acquired by the Coral Springs Museum of Art preserve this evolution within the institution’s growing contemporary collection, highlighting the museum’s commitment to experimental material practices and emerging voices in South Florida art.

“These mirrors carry color the way people carry energy.”
