Meki: Study of Sound & Movement (2016)

In 2016, Haiiileen premiered Meki: Study of Sound & Movement, an experimental haiiileen meki performance uniting light, sound, and body in an immersive, synesthetic installation. This one-of-one performance merged projection mapping, music, and live choreography into a collective sensory environment, marking an early milestone in Haiiileen’s evolution from fashion performance to immersive conceptual art.

Meki: Study of Sound & Movement (2016) was a performance installation where Haiiileen embodied her synesthetic philosophy through sound, color, and motion. In this experimental work, projected visuals merged with atmospheric soundscapes and choreographed improvisation, transforming the performance space into a live synesthetic environment.

Audiences experienced a layered sensory world where sound frequencies corresponded with light patterns and body gestures, creating a portal of collective vibration. The performance blurred the lines between ritual, nightlife, and conceptual art, positioning the body as a living conduit of color and sound.

Meki was one of Haiiileen’s earliest explorations of performance as a vessel for synesthesia. Drawing on influences from ritual, rhythm, and nightlife, the piece mapped sound waves into physical and visual expression.

The title “Meki” suggests a fluid, shifting identity — a persona through which Haiiileen investigated how energy, frequency, and embodiment intersect. The work established methodologies that would evolve in later projects like Acid Trees (2016), Interdimensional Baths (2015), and LightScapes (2018–2019).

  • Marks a key early performance where Haiiileen fully synthesized movement, light, and sound.
  • Demonstrates her method of translating synesthetic experience into immersive art.
  • Serves as a precursor to her later institutional installations (LightScapes, Rainbow Oasiiis, Rainbow Castle).
  • Important archival documentation of Haiiileen’s development of persona and performance-based practice.
